DIY Natural Bathroom Cleaner

Two ingredients. Five minutes. A bathroom cleaner you actually feel good about using.

This simple spray combines the natural cleaning power of Castile Soap with the gentle scrubbing action of Bi-Carb Soda - no synthetic fragrance, no harsh chemicals, no fumes. Safe to use around kids and pets, and effective on all the surfaces your bathroom throws at it.

What You'll Need

1 tbsp Castile Soap
1 tbsp Bi-Carb Soda
Water (filtered or tap, to fill)
15–20 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional)

Why These Ingredients?

Castile Soap is a true plant-based soap made from saponified vegetable oils. It lifts grease, soap scum, and grime from surfaces and rinses clean - no synthetic detergents, no residue.

Bi-Carb Soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a gentle, non-toxic natural abrasive that helps scrub away surface buildup on sinks, baths, and toilets. It also neutralises odours naturally, making it ideal for bathroom use. Unlike harsh chemical scourers, it won't scratch or damage surfaces.

Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional) is well known for its natural antimicrobial properties, making it a great addition to a bathroom cleaner. It also adds a clean, fresh scent without synthetic fragrance.

Method

Add 1 tbsp of Bi-Carb Soda to your By Me glass spray bottle. Fill the bottle 3/4 full with water and swirl to dissolve the Bi-Carb Soda.
Add 1 tbsp of Castile Soap. Swirl to combine
Add 15-20 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil if using.
Fill to the top with water.
Screw on the spray top and give it a gentle swirl to combine.

To Use

Give the bottle a shake before each use - the Bi-Carb Soda will settle over time, so a quick shake ensures everything is evenly mixed before you spray. Spray directly onto bathroom surfaces - sinks, baths, toilets, tiles - and wipe clean with a cloth. For stubborn buildup, spray and leave for a minute or two before wiping.

One Important Note

Castile Soap does not mix with acidic ingredients. Do not add vinegar or citric acid to this formula - it will curdle and separate. If you want to tackle hard water marks or calcium buildup, use a separate citric acid spray and apply it after wiping down with this cleaner.
