DIY Natural Dishwashing Liquid

If you've been buying dishwashing liquid out of habit, this one's for you. This simple recipe uses just Castile Soap and Washing Soda — two powerhouse natural ingredients that cut through grease, lift food residue, and leave your dishes clean without a drop of synthetic fragrance, SLS, or petroleum-derived surfactants.
And because it lives in a By Me glass dispenser, it looks good doing it.
What You'll Need
- 1 tsp Washing Soda
- A little warm water (just enough to dissolve the washing soda)
- 500ml Castile Soap
- 1 x By Me 500ml Glass Soap Dispenser Bottle
Why These Ingredients?
Castile Soap is a true plant-based soap made from saponified vegetable oils — no synthetics, no fillers. It's a natural surfactant that lifts grease and grime from surfaces and rinses clean. It's biodegradable, gentle on skin, and completely free from the nasties found in most conventional dish soaps.
Washing Soda (sodium carbonate) is a natural mineral compound that boosts the cleaning power of castile soap. It softens water, cuts through grease, and helps lift stubborn food residue — without any harsh chemicals. A little goes a long way.
Method
- Add 1 tsp of Washing Soda to your By Me glass dispenser bottle. Add a small splash of warm water and swirl gently until the washing soda is fully dissolved.
- Pour in approximately 500ml of Castile Soap to fill the bottle.
- Screw on the pump and give it a gentle shake to combine.
That's it. You're done.
To Use
Add 1–2 pumps directly onto a damp dish brush or sponge. Wash as normal and rinse.
The formula lathers well and a little goes a long way — you don't need to glob it on.
Storage
Keeps well at room temperature. If you notice any separation over time, just give the bottle a gentle shake before use.
