This is Bergaptene-Free Bergamot Oil—meaning furocoumarins have been removed, making it safer for topical use without the severe phototoxic reactions associated with expressed bergamot oil. What is Bergamot Oil? Bergamot oil is extracted from the peel of the bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia), a small citrus fruit that grows primarily in the Calabria region of southern Italy. Unlike the sweet oranges you eat, bergamot is prized entirely for its aromatic peel, which yields an essential oil with a unique, complex citrus character—fresh, bright, and slightly floral. Aroma Profile: Pleasant, fresh, and fruity with sophisticated floral undertones. Uplifting yet calming—the signature scent in Earl Grey tea and countless fine fragrances.

Important Safety Information
ALWAYS DILUTE before topical use

Sun Sensitivity:
Even bergaptene-free bergamot can increase sun sensitivity. Avoid sun exposure for 12-24 hours after topical application. Always use sunscreen.

- Can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions
- Contains high levels of limonene and linalool (known allergens)
- Always use proper dilution (1-2% for facial, 2-3% for body)
- Not for use on damaged or broken skin
Oxidation Concerns:
This oil is highly susceptible to oxidation due to high limonene content. Oxidized oil is more likely to cause skin sensitization:
- Store properly (see below)
- Use fresh oil
- Consider adding antioxidant (vitamin E) to formulations
- Discard if oil smells “off” or rancid
Not for Internal Use:
For external and aromatic use only.
Pregnancy & Medical Conditions:
Consult healthcare provider if pregnant, nursing, or have medical conditions.
Flammable:
Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames.
General Precautions:
- Keep out of reach of children
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes

Storage & Shelf Life
Critical Storage Requirements:
To Prevent Oxidation:
- Store in amber glass bottle with tight lid

- Protect from light, heat, and air exposure
- Fill bottles to minimize air space
- Consider adding antioxidant (0.1% vitamin E)
Shelf Life:
Approximately 1-2 years when stored properly. High limonene content makes this oil prone to oxidation—proper storage is essential for maintaining quality and safety.
Signs of Oxidation:
- Off or rancid smell
- Thickening
- Color darkening
- Discard if these occur
